Sessions & Panes

Splits, focus, resize, zoom, swap, rotate, and pane numbers.

Kumo manages panes as a binary split tree: every split divides a pane into two, vertically or horizontally. Sessions are independent webs of panes, and the sidebar's project layout (default) lists every worktree flat β€” session name with its branch dimmed and every agent inline β€” the active worktree expanded with all agents sharing its block highlight, inactive minimized to one line. Drag the sidebar's right edge to resize (20–50 cols). The classic SESSIONS/AGENTS panels remain via [sidebar] layout = "divided" | "tabs".

Pane operations

All operations live behind the leader key (Ctrl+B by default):

KeysAction
leader+vSplit the focused pane vertically
leader+-Split the focused pane horizontally
leader+h/j/k/lMove focus left/down/up/right
leader+TabCycle focus between panes
leader+H/J/K/LResize the focused pane
leader+zZoom the focused pane
leader+sSwap the focused pane with its sibling
leader+oRotate the pane layout
leader+qShow pane numbers β€” press a number to jump
leader+xClose the focused pane

Mouse gestures

Mouse gestures are positional hit-testing, not key sequences β€” they are deliberately not remappable:

  • πŸ–οΈ Drag selects text (copied on release) β€” works even in apps with mouse reporting.
  • πŸ‘† Click is forwarded to the app when it owns the mouse.
  • 🎚️ Scroll is forwarded to reporting apps; otherwise it scrolls the pane's scrollback.
  • ↔️ Drag a splitter to resize.
  • 🧭 The MENU button (right of the mode chip in the status bar) opens a dropdown with keybinds (the same showcase as leader+?) and exit.

Sessions

KeysAction
leader+cCreate a new session (name it in the popup)
leader+n / leader+pNext / previous session
leader+1…9Jump to the session at that sidebar position
leader+bToggle the sidebar

From the sessions list you can also create and open git worktrees directly.

Tabs

Tabs (windows) let one session hold several named pane trees. Use kumo tab list, kumo tab new, kumo tab focus, kumo tab rename, and kumo tab kill to manage them, or use the tab bar in the TUI.
